Join the Kiwanis Club of Raleigh as we welcome Sam Hayes, Executive Director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections. An attorney by training, Hayes earned his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law and has spent much of his career in public service and state government. Before assuming his current role, he served in senior legal and policy positions in North Carolina government, including as General Counsel to the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives and previously with the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer.

As Executive Director, Hayes oversees the day-to-day operations of the State Board of Elections, working with all 100 county boards of elections to administer elections, maintain voter registration systems, and ensure compliance with state and federal election laws. He will discuss the responsibilities of the State Board, the complexities of administering elections in North Carolina, and the importance of public confidence in the electoral process.
